In celebration of this year's STEP Excellence Awards winners we spoke to one of this year's winners, Rebecca Devine from Jones Whyte Law.

What attracted you to a career in law?

I was motivated to enter into a career in law to be able to help people at some of the most challenging points in their lives. This in particular drew me into the field of private client law.

What do you think is the most important thing STEP does?

STEP provides confidence in the profession by setting out a gold standard. It plays an important role in maintaining standards in the industry.

Why did you decide to take one of the STEP qualifications?

I decided to take a STEP Qualification to enhance my knowledge in the field. It helped me to ensure I can always give the best advice to my clients which is very important to me.

What would you say to someone who is considering taking a STEP qualification?

I would say, do it! It is challenging but it is definitely worth it.

You achieved the top mark in your recent exam – do you have any advice for those wanting to do the same?

I would advise those taking STEP exams to ensure they give themselves sufficient time to revise. I found that putting a lot of time into preparation is key.

One of STEP’s Values is continuous learning. How has the qualification supported your professional development and career growth?

Taking a STEP Qualification increased my knowledge and confidence. It has allowed me to provide excellent advice to my clients and provide increasing support and mentoring for my team.
