The STEP Diploma

Why the STEP Diploma?

Completion of the STEP Diploma enables you to:

  • Develop your own professional competence
  • Enhance your ability to give advice to clients
  • Become a Full Member of STEP, enabling you to use the TEP designation.*
  • Gain a globally recognised qualification

Who is it for?

The STEP Diploma is for all practitioners working in the field of trusts and/or estates.

You will need 60 Entry Level credits in order to enrol on this course. These credits can be achieved through prior learning (certificated or experiential) or completion of Entry Level Certificates.

Please see the Qualifications and Membership Framework for further details on how to gain Entry Level and Diploma Level credits via exams or accreditation of prior experience and learning.

How does it work?

Build a STEP Diploma that works for you by choosing from our extensive suite of Advanced Certificates.

Combine four Advanced Certificates to make up your Diploma.

The Advanced Certificates are listed below in three sets. Choose at least one from Set 1 - Private wealth administration and governance, at least one from Set 2 - Tax and compliance, and two from any of the three sets.

We have also accredited some non-STEP courses or qualifications in certain jurisdictions, which can be used as an exemption from the STEP Diploma. Currently these exist in the following regions:

Diploma and STEP membership

Upon completion of the STEP Diploma, in order to upgrade to Full (TEP) Membership, you will also need a minimum of two years’ current professional experience at mid to senior level, including significant involvement at a specialist level with one or more of the following: planning, creation, management of and accounting for trusts and estates, executorship administration and related taxes.
